Christ, King of Winter

December 2023 | Written by Ellie McGinty

O Christ, You are the King of snow,

snow that covers the earth like a blanket,

laid by Your hands, inviting us to rest

in Your beauty.

O Christ, You are the King of ice,

ice that hangs from edges like blown glass,

spun by Your breath that we might glimpse the depth

of Your beauty.

O Christ, You are the King of clouds,

clouds like a mantle of pearls from the sea,

set by Your hands to remind us again

of Your beauty.

O Christ, You are the King of evergreens,

trees that bear witness to wakefulness,

shaped by Your hands to gently draw our glance

to Your beauty.

O Christ, You are the King of stars,

studding the velvet sky with diamonds,

placed by Your hands, inviting us to dance

in Your beauty.

O Christ, You are the King of cold,

cold that brightens our eyes, makes visible our breath.

A stillness that stills us, and a clean canvas

for Your beauty.
