"For where you treasure is, there your heart will be also."
-Matthew 6:21
2 Corinthains 8:9
How much should we give? The New Testament shows us that the self-giving love of Jesus is that standard that we are to live by and imitate. We are to reflect love and generosity of our Lord and Savior. And what did Christ give to us? Jesus has given us every spiritual blessing in Himself. He became poor so that we would become spiritually rich.
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich."
Leviticus 1:3
When an Israelite offered a lamb from their herd to the Lord in a burnt offering, they were called to find their best lamb. A lamb that was spotless, without blemish or deformity. They were called to give to the Lord what was most precious, most valuable and most dear to them. Why? Because it revealed that their greatest love in life was the Lord. They wanted to give their King, their Lord, their God, their very best. This is our aim as believers. Jesus is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, deserving of all praise, glory, and honor. Therefore, it is our heart to give him our very best.
“If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish."
Psalm 24:1
A steward is a person who has been entrusted with another’s resources and who seeks to manage those resources according to the owner’s vision and values. It is important that we recognize as Christians that we are not the owner of our lives, but rather the steward of our lives. Everything that we have belongs the Lord. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 4:7, "What do we have that we did not receive?" Therefore, our desire is to use our gifts, abilities, resources, and money according the vision and values of Jesus. We want our money to reflect our love for Jesus and our desire to build his Kingdom rather than our own.
"The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,"
Matthew 16:33
We are called to live for something much bigger than ourselves. We are called not to live for our own kingdom, but God's kingdom. As R.C. Sproul put it, "The most important investment we can ever make is in the kingdom of God, because it has eternal returns. These returns are not just for us but also for our family, our children, our grandchildren. This generation of Christians must invest in the things of God for the sake of the next generation."
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
2 Corinthians 9:7
As we think about what Christ has done for us, how could we not give back in joy? Jesus is our greatest joy in life and because of that is our joy to give back to Him in worship. It is our joy to support his mission, his church, and the furtherance of his Kingdom.
"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

In Person
We want to invite you to join us in our vision to love Jesus, live as family and look to the fields. One of the ways you can help us live out this vision is by annually filling out a "Harvest Card."
At the end of the third quarter of each year, Gashland EPC begins the financial planning process for the coming year. Part of this planning includes asking all who consider themselves part of the Gashland family to prayerfully consider filling out a "Harvest Card" to let us know what your financial commitment is for the church this year. This not only calls to our attention the importance of giving to God the “firstfruits” of our labors, but also guides our church body in planning ministries and activities in the new year. Harvest Cards are collected in October each year. You can fill out a Harvest Card online by clicking the button below.
